Upper Hutt turns 50!

Two 1960s-themed exhibitions in the Upper Hutt Main St shopping area begin this weekend in a further build up to the "Little City Big Bash" street festival on Saturday, October 29.

The "Back in the Day" pop-up museum and a "Walk Down Memory Lane" retail trial will both continue into November.

The Pop Up museum at the Arkwright's Empire store on Main St features historic photographs and publications representative of the decade during which, in 1966, Upper Hutt earned its city status.

The Memory Lane trail featured 25 businesses decorating their shop windows to reflect something of the shopping experience of the 1960s.

The Back in the Day museum will run until November 6 and the Walk Down Memory Lane displays to November 14.

Upper Hutt's history is being further celebrated with a first city heritage calendar. The $15 calendar will initially be on sale at the temporary museum.
