Upper Hutt's local news appears in The Upper Hutt Leader and if you don't have a copy, you can see the latest Leader online. See the latest local news, notices and local events. Or if it's easier, just call into the Leader office and pick one up!

Popular attractions in Upper Hutt include Harcourt Park, Trentham Golf Club, Trentham Racecourse, Silverstream Railway, Expressions Arts & Entertainment Centre, Rimutaka Forest Park (Rimutaka cycle trail and Rimutaka incline). Upper Hutt is also home to loads of sports and hobby clubs, including Upper Hutt Indoor Sports and the Upper Hutt Bridge Club. Trentham races

Trentham Racecourse is home to the Wellington Racing Club and offers a great family day out, whether you're up for a flutter or two on the horses, or just there to enjoy the racing atmosphere. Annual events include Wellington Cup Carnival Day, Family Day Christmas at the Races, Ladies Day and there are lots of other good racing days running throughout the year. Not sure how to get there? Drive-in movies

Wellington's only drive-in cinema is at Trentham Racecourse. See what movies are coming up and book online at Firefly Cinemas. Note, drive-in movies only run during the summer months.

Upper Hutt Cossie Club

The Upper Hutt Cosmopolitan Club (or the "Cossie Club" as it's affectionately known by locals) is at 11 Logan Street, Upper Hutt. If you're a member, the Courtesy Coach can be reached on 0508 COSSIE (0508 267 743).

The Upper Hutt Cossie Club is a member-only bar and restaurant (though guests can gain entry if accompanying a member of the club). Each week there's something different on, from a hypnotist doing a live show one week, to a visiting psychic (such as Deb Webber) on another week. Different bands perform on stage throughout the year. Check the cossie club website to see what's coming up.

Harcourt Park (for events and music concerts)

Harcourt Park is just north of Upper Hutt City centre (turn left after the Rimutaka Caltex, onto Akatarawa Road). Harcourt Park hosts a number of regular annual events such as the international Jousting Tournament and Super Chevy Sunday, as well as a mix of music concerts throughout the year. Expressions is the local cultural hub of Upper Hutt. At Expressions you'll see local artwork on display, some of which is available for purchase. Visit Expressions at 836 Fergusson Drive, Upper Hutt to enjoy the artwork, grab a cuppa from the cafe or buy tickets for a stage show. For any enquiries, call them on 527 2168.

Silverstream Railway

Silverstream Railway is a working heritage railway, open to the public for steam train rides on Sundays and some public holidays from 11am to 4pm. Silverstream Railway is located on Reynolds Bach Drive (the road linking Silverstream to Stokes Valley). For enquiries, call them on 563 7348.

Staglands Wildlife Reserve & Cafe

Staglands Wildlife Reserve & Cafe offers visitors the unique and exciting opportunity to connect with nature in a beautiful, natural environment. Feed and freely interact with wildlife in this very special place - the product of one man’s passion and vision to experience nature at its best. Located in the scenic Akatarawa Valley near Upper Hutt, Wellington, Staglands is a ‘must see’ attraction for local families and tourists visiting the Wellington region. Looking for things to do in Wellington, look no further. 

Staglands Wildlife Reserve is, hands down, the best place to visit as family in the Wellington region. It is also a great destination for school and group visits, picnics and BBQ’s or if you are looking for activities and things to do in Wellington with your family and friends that’s different from animal farm parks or Zoo’s.  

There is also Staglands cosy café - a stunning log building with an open fire, outdoor seating, BBQ/picnic area and sumptuous menu.

Upper Hutt Citizens Advice Bureau

The local Citizens Advice Bureau is at 18 Logan Street, Upper Hutt. Phone 528 9040. They're open Monday to Friday between 9am and 4.30pm. Call for an appointment for JP services, or for other enquiries, just phone them or drop in.
