Here's an interesting read for those in their 30s - an article from Forbes magazine on making good financial decisions in your 30s, to live well in your older years. Even though it's written from an American perspective, it's still well worth the read.

Need to manage your money better, or shrink your debt?

Many people are not naturally talented at managing their money. We found two great online resources to help you reach your dream goal of a holiday or a new car or whatever lights your fire, full of helpful advice:

  • "How to Develop Financial Literacy", in 10 steps
  • Practical Money Skills New Zealand has a "Manage Your Money" resource where you can learn how to live within your means, how to save for university, and even work out how much you're able to spend on a new car. There are games here too to test your financial knowledge

Sorted NZ's advice to shrink debt is to "avoid dumb debt, make a repayment plan and manage your mortgage". Here's a link to finding out your money personality (and your partner's!)

If you need financial help, you can talk to your bank manager and/or visit local groups that offer free financial advice (like Citizens Advice), or go to an authorised financial adviser.
